Leadership Jersey are pleased to announce their next event will take place on
Tuesday 27th June 2017 at the Pomme D’Dor Hotel at 4:30pm
How does someone become a leader? What drives them to lead and reach the top in an organisation? Two leaders will present very different stories about how they achieved success and the leadership lessons they learned along the way.
Our speakers are:
Elaine Fairfax, Co-founder, Animal Friends Insurance. Elaine left school at the age of 15 with no qualifications at all. When most people are looking forward to retirement, Elaine set up a pet insurance company with her husband Chris. Neither of them had worked in insurance before. Despite a shaky start, Animal Friends Insurance is probably now the biggest pet insurer in the UK. She employs over 200 staff at two sites in Amesbury and Swindon. Elaine strongly feels that the success of her company is solely down to her amazing staff and her leadership skills. Elaine and her husband moved to Jersey in 2016.
Colin Macleod, Chief Executive Officer, The Channel Islands Co-operative Society. Colin commenced his career on the shop floor 26 years ago and, has been CEO of The Channel Islands Co-operative Society since 2010. He is also a Director of FRTS and is currently Vice President of Euro Coop. Recently named IOD Director of the Year for the United Kingdom, he has consistently demonstrated an ability to push performance improvement in competitive markets. Colin also has a history of delivering innovation and diversification, capitalizing on trust he and his board have cemented in their Society’s brand. A deep believer in the potential in people and a devoted father, Colin has also recently published his first Children’s book, which he wrote with the help of his two boys. ‘Meet HammerHead & Captain StinkyPants.’
The event will be chaired by James Filleul, joint-owner and editor of Jersey’s digital newspaper, Bailiwick Express, and Connect business magazine, he will be asking Elaine and Colin about the highs and lows of being leaders and what drives them both personally and in work.
Profit after expenses from the event will be donated to two charities that have been selected by Elaine and Colin.
