Welcome to the first Leaders Connect breakfast seminar.
Leaders Connect offers Chief Executives and Senior Leaders from voluntary organisations and social enterprises the opportunity to hear inspirational speakers and be exposed to new ways of thinking and leading. It is also a chance to meet with peers to share experiences, skills and knowledge, and develop new connections.
The first Leaders Connect speaker is Martin Sandbrook, Director at the Schumacher Institute for Sustainable Systems, as well as a Consultant with Interventions for Sustainable Change. Martin will share with you an effective approach to leadership within the context of an increasingly fast moving and complex world.
We work in complex systems – beyond the simple and easy fixes, to where there are many possible ways forward, where analysing the problem rarely delivers a clear solution.
Martin will introduce you to an approach to complexity called ‘systems thinking’. His argument is that we need to develop more appropriate ways to deal with complexity and uncertainty. We need to be aware of our own and others’ assumptions and beliefs, see other perspectives, let go the need to be right, be inquiring, open to learning, ready to experiment our way forwards through action.
We will ask ourselves, ‘why do these factors working together, produce this result? How might I influence it to produce a better result?’ We will shift from a ‘thing’ view of the world to a ‘relationship’ view.
Come and hear this inspirational talk and learn a different approach to leadership.
