Leaders in Their Field: Is Farming in Revolution?

Join us at All Saints' Church, Langport for what promises to be speical evening in the heart of our rural Somerset community.

As a town shaped by farming and the rhythms of the land, Langport is the perfect setting to explore what it means to grow food and steward nature in a time of climate crisis, shifting policy, and rising public expectation. British farming stands at a crossroads — or perhaps a quiet revolution. But who is leading the change?

This panel brings together three West Country farmers — each deeply rooted in the land but looking to the future. Together, they’ll reflect on the pressures they face, the evolving identity of the farmer, and the possibilities opening up in a world hungry for change. Hosted by Kate Hughes, chair of Sustainable Food Somerset and an Exmoor-based regenerative farmer.

Speakers:

  • Sophie Aplin – Organic dairy farmer from Dorset/Somerset border, championing regenerative grazing.
  • Fred Price – Agroecological farmer at Gothelney Farm near Bridgwater, transforming traditional arable into a regenerative, mixed system rooted in soil health and biodiversity.
  • Harry Lang – Farmer and conservationist at Home Farm, Curry Rivel, balancing food production with wildlife, land management, and running a rural business.
