Course Content:

This course is aimed at those with current people management responsibilities or those aspiring to such a role. During this interactive workshop, delegates will learn about what makes a good leader and the models developed to help leaders work effectively. Values, needs and motivation will be examined both in reference to how to manage people with different drivers and how our values impact our leadership abilities. How to effectively use delegation as well as the core processes of Performance Management, Disciplinary, Capability and Grievance Processes complete the schedule for this packed day.

A small element of Pre-Course work is required to ensure all delegates gain the most from the workshop on the day.

Topics covered and expected outcomes are detailed below:

Leadership Qualities - Understand the difference between Leadership and Management, identify key Leadership qualities and review current Leadership strengths/development areas

Leadership Models - Understand different Leadership models and be able to identify your own/others’

Leadership styles - Understand the difference between Values and Behaviours and understand how our own Values can impact our Leadership

Values, Needs and Motivations - Understand Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and how this, combined with an individual’s Values, impacts motivation and understand ways to discover team members’ motivations

Delegation - Understand the benefits and risks of Delegation and understand the role of trust between the Leader and team member as well as how to foster trust

Performance Management - Understand the need to set clear goals and how to do this, understand the importance of regular feedback and learn how to tackle difficult conversations confidently

Disciplinary, Capability and Grievance Processes - Understand the importance of Disciplinary, Capability and Grievance Practices and understand how to handle your own emotions when dealing with these sensitive areas
