Leadership in Safeguarding Sessions 1 and 2 (In Person)

Please ensure that your Basic Awareness and Foundation training have been completed before booking on to this course. Both can be accessed online via the Church of England's Safeguarding Portal.

This course has two compulsory sessions: Session 1 on Thursday 4th December and Session 2 on Thursday 11th December 10am-12pm. Both are held at Flourish House, Wells.

There is also pre-course work that must be completed at least one week prior to attendance and a post-course reflective exercise.

With the pre-course work requirement, and a post-course reflective exercise 4 weeks after the second session, this course takes about 6 weeks to complete in total.

Attendance at both sessions is necessary to complete the course. Please ensure you can attend both dates at the same time before you book. There is also a course booklet with tasks to complete and submit before attendance at the first session. A link to the booklet will be included in your confirmation email.

This course is required for all church officers in the Diocese of Bath and Wells who have safeguarding leadership responsibilities or responsibility for leading activities involving children, young people and/or adults who may be vulnerable.

This includes, but is not limited to, all Clergy, Readers and Lay Leaders, Ordinands, Safeguarding Officers / Leads, Churchwardens, Choir Leaders, Directors of Music and Bell Tower Captains who work in Cathedrals or other high-profile settings, or who train children to bell ring.

Learning outcomes:

      • Understand how safeguarding concerns and abuse can be prevented within their context.
      • Understand how healthy culture, and safe and effective leadership, shape Christian communities that are healthy, safe, and have the capacity to deliver high quality safeguarding practices.
      • Recognise when risk assessment and management processes are required, understanding when, why and how they must be used.
      • Understand more of the impact that abuse and trauma have on individuals’ lives, relationships, and interactions in a community setting, leading to better responses to victims and survivors.
      • Evaluate their learning and translate this into an individual plan of action that will improve their safeguarding practice and responses.

Please note: if you need to cancel your attendance at either part of the course, please do inform us with as much notice as possible so the two sessions can be offered to someone else.
