Leading a Dance Department in the State Sector CPD Interactive Webinar

This interactive webinar provides opportunities for dance teachers to reflect on the leadership and management skills required for heading a dance department in state sector education. Participants will be guided through some of the principles for setting up a successful and dynamic dance department, and how their visions for what a dance department should demonstrate can be achieved. Reflection on scenarios for managing staff and steering a team to success will also be explored. At the end of the webinar, time will be allocated for Q&A.

Aims

The aims of the interactive webinar are to:

• Explore and reflect on the foundations of a successful dance department in the state sector.
• Identify aspects of effective leadership.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the interactive webinar, you will:

• Have an increased understanding of leadership as a Head of Department.
• Have enhanced understanding of managing a dance department.
• Have gained some insights in how to manage, guide and support dance teaching staff.
• Be able to reflect on your own practices required to guide a dance department to success.

Tutor

Lee Davall

Lee has taught in a range of inner-city contexts from challenging schools and community schools to high achieving specialist performing arts schools. Lee has extensive experience of delivering the Secondary dance curriculum including KS3, GCSE, AS Level, A2 Level, BTEC Level 2 First Diploma and BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Dance and working for state sector focused exam boards. Lee has held a number of leadership positions that have required strategic planning, implementation and management. In addition to this, Lee has taught in the private dance sector a range of dance styles for graded exams and competition dances. Previously, Lee worked as Director of Dance for a selective Performing Arts Academy for students aged 14-19 years, with an aptitude for Dance. Lee currently works as the Masters of Arts Education (Dance Teaching) programme manager in the Faculty of Education at RAD.
