Event description

Description

This session on change management level 1 is focused on how change effects the individual and how we can support them more effectively through the change process. It has a slightly different focus to our session on change management level 2 being run by Desiree Cox on Wed 18 October which looks more at the effect of change on teams and departments.

This event is aimed at people who are newer to change management and could also be a refresher for more experienced practitioners. If you book on this event you will be expected to have some responsibility for change management processes either now or in the future Joanne ran this popular session for us last year and got great feedback.

Change is a constant. Whether it's a restructure of the workforce, the implementation of a new process or system or even the launch of a new product; planning and delivering the change management to support its successful implementation is crucial.

During this master class we will spend time understanding people’s reactions to change and the drivers of those behaviours. We will work through the change cycle and using a range of tools and techniques will explore different ways and approaches to engage individuals and teams to embed the change, improve sustainability and deliver the outcomes that were intended.

Learning Outcomes:

  • An understanding of the impact of change on people and the influence this has on people ’s behaviours
  • Tools to support the development and early engagement of the Change vision and desired results
  • Techniques for planning change, with specific linkage to managing cultural change
  • Understanding the people challenges at the different stages of the change cycle, with ideas for reinforcing and sustaining change

Topic includes

  • the neuroscience of change
  • The effect of change on the brain, why we react in a specific way and the domains to support people through change
  • Preparing for change
  • Change being managed well
  • Importance of a clear vision and core purpose questions
  • Engaging others in the change
  • Understanding our ‘zones ’ during the change curve
  • Tools to engage people at all stages of change
  • Motivating and supporting people to change
  • Understanding people ’s internal and external motivation, and what we can practically do to motivate and support people
  • Considering the impact on our plans of behavioural individual preferences
  • Challenges in change
  • Using the cycle of change to consider our challenges and thoughts to overcome

Participant feedback from last year:

‘A really enjoyable session and Joanne was excellent. I'll definitely be devising a toolkit for myself.’

‘I found it useful discussing the SCARF model with peers and hearing about practical tools such as the circle of influence. I liked that the trainer gave lots of real examples to support the theory.’

‘The session on the neuroscience of change was useful as this was a new aspect and helped to identify how individual react and respond to change’

HPMA competencies

The session will address Change Catalyst at level 3 from our HR Competency Framework.
