About this event

Singing plays an important role in the music education of primary school students as evidenced by the Model Music Curriculum published by the DfE in March 2021. Singing can provide wonderful opportunities for musical learning, without the need of instruments. However, it can be hard to get pupils singing successfully in primary schools and using the correct technique from a young age!

This session will support teachers from primary schools to not only build their confidence to use their voice in lessons but understand healthy singing technique, approaches to singing and strategies to use with your pupils.

The session will be designed support teachers of KS1 and KS2 and will include activities and ideas you can take straight into the classroom. This session will be practical so be prepared to bring your singing voice!

This session is suitable for teachers of both KS1 and KS2 as well as teacher assistants, music teachers in primary schools, NQTs and trainee teachers.

About The Voices Foundation

Voices Foundation has been working since 1993 to help schools, academies, Music Education Hubs and other partners across the UK to establish sustainable and effective music education in their settings. Everyone has a voice, and singing is a powerful way for children to become proficient musicians.

The Voices Foundation transform music in schools by developing teachers' knowledge, skills and confidence in how to teach music effectively. Their model of teacher development supports schools to embed daily singing into school life - both through the curriculum and through extra-curricular choral enrichment. It aims to transform whole schools, teachers and children and is focussed on sustainable and integrated music education for all.
