Event description

Description

Using the approach of Linguistic Profiling, we take a dynamic approach to gendered language norms that are observable in everyday workplace communication. We teach participants how to pinpoint gendered communication in their own workplaces. Attendees are provided with an innovative linguistic skills-set providing a range of different approaches designed to enhance communicative styles at work. We introduce the crucial role played by language in preventing women from breaking through the glass ceiling. We present a range of practical strategies to empower participants to deal with gender stereotyping effectively to maximise their workplace impact.

Our workshops offer a unique training experience as they are based on real-life professional interactions and include interactive drama and performance elements with our dedicated team of actors. All workshops are delivered at the University of Nottingham’s award-winning University Park Campus by our linguistics experts.

The event will be co-facilitated by ex-Nottinghamshire Chief Constable Sue Fish OBE QPM MBA, bringing the weight of her extensive experience working in the public sector to provide concrete real-world examples and advice.

*Our offer is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and we offer eligible SMEs a choice of: 2 free workshops, or 1 free workshop and a 6 hour consultancy taster package.

LiPP workshops are primarily for SMEs based in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. An eligible SME is a company that:

• Has less than 250 employees
• Is not more than 25% owned by an enterprise that in itself is not an SME
• Has an annual turnover of less than €50 million OR has an annual balance sheet of less than €43 million

This event is part of the £20million Enabling Innovation programme – led by the University of Nottingham, University of Derby and Nottingham Trent University – and co funded by the universities and with European Regional Development Fund monies from the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership; a private sector-led partnership promoting economic and jobs growth across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Universities will aim to use their technical expertise to help more than 2,000 D2N2 area small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) over three years; to invest in research and innovation, become more competitive, and to grow and create high skilled jobs.
