About this event
This interactive three-hour virtual training session is designed for leaders in children’s homes and supported accommodation, including Registered (Service) Managers, Deputy Managers, and Shift Leaders. Leadership in these settings demands more than oversight; it calls for the kind of relational intelligence and courageous clarity that nurtures teams and strengthens care.
At CHQ, we believe leadership is an act of Lovin Care: equipping, challenging, and uplifting those who hold direct responsibility for children's and young people's experiences. This session embodies that ethos, striking a balance between regulatory precision and emotionally intelligent practice. Through practical models, reflective activities, and scenario-based learning, participants will strengthen their ability to delegate with trust and clarity, and to deliver feedback that builds confidence, accountability, and relational safety within teams.
Leaders will be introduced to the 5Cs Delegation Model, a structured approach that promotes professional growth while centring the needs of children and young people. Delegation will be explored not as a one-off task but as an intentional act of Lovin Care rooted in clear expectations, psychological safety, and supportive oversight.
Feedback practice draws on the Radical Candour framework, guiding leaders to strike a healthy balance of challenge and care in performance conversations. Complementing this, the SBI (Situation-Behaviour-Impact) model supports future-focused feedback that is respectful, effective, and aligned with CHQ’s values.
All content reflects key standards, including The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Supported Accommodation Regulations, the SCCIF, and Ofsted’s expectations for effective leadership.
Leaders will leave with increased confidence, clarity, and a toolkit of models and mindsets that reflect CHQ’s commitment to Lovin' Care, not only in the care children receive, but also in how adults are empowered and supported to deliver it.
Your facilitator, Eithne Staunton, known from the Free Managers Monthly meetups, has an ethos grounded in a child-first, person-centred approach. She sees behaviour as a form of communication and prioritises understanding the reasons behind it. Eithne champions compassionate, outcomes-focused practices that equip teams to respond with empathy, respect, and insight. With nearly two decades of experience as a Registered Manager and a proven track record of achieving 'Outstanding' ratings for thirteen years from Ofsted, Eithne is passionate about inspiring excellence in social care, supporting children, families, and those who care for them to thrive.
