    About this course

    Worship can be thought of as the heartbeat of the Church and also its shop window. But how do we worship God together most authentically? Why is it that we worship today in the ways we do?

    This hands-on course aims to develop your understanding and skills in planning and leading worship, with a particular focus on the elements and creative possibilities of Common Worship’s Service of the Word framework

    Course Format

    • Diverse Learning Modes. Explore through videos, audio, text, and interactive activities.
    • 3 weekly Online Group Tutorials (with preparation). Connect with fellow learners and delve deeper with support from your group tutor.
    • 1 onsite Study Day. Gather together to wrestle with key questions

    Who is this Course for?

    This course is for anyone who wants to:

    • Learn more about the practice and theology of Leading Worship.
    • Grow through study and reflection with others online, discover new perspectives, ask questions.
    • Deepen their discipleship or explore a call to minister in some way.

    Dates:

    Online Welcome Evening: Wednesday 17 September 2025 at 7.30pm

    Onsite Study Day: Saturday 18 October (9.30am-4pm) at Church House, Kidlington. OX5 1GF

    Online Tutorials: Wednesdays at 2pm, Wednesdays at 7.30pm or Thursdays at 7.30pm

    • Wednesdays: Sept 24; Oct 1,8
    • Thursdays: Sept 25; Oct 2, 9

    (Please indicate when booking which time and day you would prefer for your tutorial, and provide a second choice of time and day for if we are unable to accommodate your first choice).

    Please Note:

    Oxford Learning Hub courses are suitable for anyone in the diocese with an interest in the topic, as well as forming part of the training programme for authorised ministers. The courses are only available to people living within the Diocese of Oxford – Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Milton Keynes.

    This study group is not suitable for those who have already trained for LLM or ordained ministry. Contact cmd@oxford.anglican.org for details of alternative courses.

    Is the course accessible?

    Onsite venues are wheelchair accessible with disabled parking spaces available. All audio/video content is transcribed and subtitled. Church House has lift access to the first-floor teaching space. To enquire about or request specific adjustment please contact communications@oxford.anglican.org

    I live outside the Diocese of Oxford, can I join?

    Due to limited course capacity, Oxford Learning Hub courses are only available to people living within in the diocese - that's Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Milton Keynes

    Who’s on the course? Who will I be studying with?

    Study Group courses are for learners keen to study with others. They are also for people training for licenced and authorised ministries within the diocese (eg. LLM, authorised preachers and potential ordinands). This creates a rich learning environment in which we all learn and share together

    Will I fit in?

    Each course starts with a welcome meeting and your tutor will help with introductions. People quickly become friends and groups often keep in touch long after the course ends!
