About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Immerse yourself in nature and creativity during this hands-on pottery workshop right here in the Heart of England Forest. Guided by Pottery Throw Down finalist David Short, you'll collect interesting leaves from the woodland, use these to create clay reproductions which are then fashioned into a bowl shape using a bisque former.

What’s in Store?

  • Guided Woodland Walk (60 minutes): Begin with a peaceful walk through the woodland, led by a member of the Heart of England Forest team. Collect interesting leaves and explore the beauty of the forest floor, gathering inspiration for your design.
  • Pottery Demonstration (20 minutes): Watch Dave demonstrate slab-building techniques and leaf modeling, using a pottery former to shape your bowl. He’ll also share tips for adding texture and colour to make your piece truly special.
  • Pottery Crafting Session (90 minutes): Bring your ideas to life! Using the leaves you’ve collected, create a stunning leaf-imprinted bowl. Add intricate textures and colours using coloured slip, with Dave on hand to offer guidance and encouragement.

After the Session
Choose to:

  • Take your bowl home: Let it dry naturally over the next week and apply a clear coat of varnish to help preserve it. (Note: Over time, unfired bowls will become delicate and may crumble.)
  • Leave it for firing and glazing: For a long-lasting, durable piece, leave your bowl with Dave. He’ll fire and glaze it professionally, then post it to you once finished. (Additional cost: £10, including postage.)

This workshop blends the calming beauty of nature with the joy of pottery, offering a unique opportunity to create something personal and meaningful. Whether you're new to pottery or an experienced maker, you’ll leave with newfound skills, a beautiful handcrafted bowl, and hopefully, a deeper connection with the Forest.
