Event description

Description

Hard Pushed is the story of modern midwifery on the front line, and Leah Hazard, a serving midwife in the NHS for the last decade, has a lot of stories about it, from the seemingly-mundane to the dramatic and extreme! Through her eyes, we meet Eleanor, whose wife is a walking miracle of modern medicine, their baby a feat of reproductive science; Crystal, pregnant at just fifteen, the precarious, flickering life within her threatening to come far too soon; Mrs Bhatti, who insists that Leah simply must write her own elaborate thank-you card; and Pei Hsuan, who has travelled hundreds of miles to somehow find herself at the open door of Leah’s ward.

Leah joins us for the evening to talk about the strains of working as an NHS midwife in a time of austerity; about some of her best stories; and about her own journey to midwifery. She'll be joined in conversation by Cat Cubie, blogger and radio presenter about parenting. Don't miss what promises to be a fantastic, informative evening!
