About this Event

Covid-19 information

The running of this course will depend on the current state of the Covid-19 pandemic. It will run only if it can be done safely & effectively, and be fully compliant with HMG/ArcheryGB rules & guidelines. In the event of cancellation any monies you have paid will be refunded.

If the rules do not allow this course to run on the date specified then it will be rescheduled, probably to start on 03/07/2021.

If the rules relax, and it is deemed safe to do so, we might be able to increase the number of places to 12 - but this is not certain.

Introduction:

This archery training course is designed to develop people, with no previous archery experience, into safe and effective archers, with an interest in the sporting side of the discipline.

Beginners' Courses run by most archery clubs are general-purpose ones - they cater for the full range of applicants, from people who just want an an enjoyable outdoor pastime, to people who want to go on to compete at a serious level. The 'standard club course' content is, therefore, set at a level to suit all comers.

Our course aimed at people who want to go into archery as a competitive sport, rather than a pastime, so it is more technical & demanding: it requires more commitment & involvement from the participants. At the end of the course you will have an excellent grounding in the sport, to enable you to move onto a club & successful participation in the sport.

If you are looking for a more conventional beginners' course, then you should find a club local to you (use the ArcheryGB Club Finder) and check when their next course is being run.

Main details:

  • All the course sessions are included in the ticket price.
  • There is an optional intro session - click here to book.
  • All the archery equipment you need for the course will be provided.
  • Sessions are generally 09:00 - 12:30 (unless notified otherwise). Please make sure you arrive in time to start promptly.
  • All coaching will be done by ArcheryGB licenced coaches.

Additional details:

  • Because of the technical nature of this course it is not suitable for youngsters under 12 years old.
  • It is NOT advisable to buy any archery equipment prior to completing this course. Everything you need for the course will be provided. Considerable help & advice will be offered during the course, so that you will be better prepared to buy a suitable setup when the time comes.
  • The taught part of the course will be run over 5 days, dates as announced.
  • Each session will consist of a mix of theory, technique development and shooting.
  • The bulk of the course will centre on the 'recurve' (or 'Olympic') type bow - but some alternative bow-styles will be introduced.
  • The course will be both indoors & outdoors, depending on the content of the session and the weather on the day.
  • The indoor venue is fully equipped & wheelchair accessible, with tea & coffee available. The outdoor venue is somewhat more rudimentary.
  • Although this course is independent of an archery club, graduates will be eligible to join any ArcheryGB affiliated club in the UK. The staff will offer support to graduates during their integration period.
  • It is expected that graduates from this course will want to receive long-term coaching to further their ambitions. The staff will be able to offer help & advise with this.
  • Full joining instructions will be sent in good time.
