Description

Learn Argentine Tango - A beginners introductory course

Come and experience the warmth and connectedness of Argentine tango.

Starting May 1st and 8th in Nottingham, a comprehensive introduction to Argentinian tango.

This course will give you the chance to explore this elegant, creative and absorbing dance for yourself.

Over the 6 weeks, we will be building a simple repertoire of steps and movements, but mainly we will focus on enjoyment, and creating a nice connection with our partners in the dance.

There is no need to book with a partner as everyone will be learning both the leading and following roles during the course. This helps build understanding and speed up our learning.

In addition to learning the fundamentals of the dance you will need for social dancing, you will also:

• Gain an understanding of its history and origins.
• Be introduced to traditional tango music and key orchestras as well as playlists for you to begin to explore.
• Use that basic understanding to build musicality into your dance from the very beginning.
• Be introduced to the social etiquette of tango and how that works in the modern day “How to behave and get dances”.
• Work through a programme of body awareness, balance, strength and coordination exercises to help support and accelerate your development in the dance.

Cost: £55 per person for the full course.

The price includes 6 weekly classes plus 1 extra 7th session free, with guided practice dancing time each week, plus exercises to practice at home if you wish.

FAQs

Can anyone come to the classes?
Yes. The classes are aimed at introducing complete beginners to tango and those with just a little experience who are starting their journey in the dance.

Do I need to bring a partner?
There is no need to book with a partner as everyone will be learning both the leading and following roles during the course. This helps build understanding and speed up our learning.

I can’t make it for the first lesson, can I still join the course?
Yes, you can join the course in the first or second week as we will be focussing on the fundamentals of the movements in both weeks. The course is progressive so it wouldn’t be appropriate to join from week 3 on.

It’s a six-week course, what if I miss a week?
There will be ample opportunities to catch up throughout the course as well as free a review and practice class at the end of the course.

What if I already have some experience, can I come and will the classes still be relevant?
It depends on how much experience you have and if you are happy to start again from the beginning.

These classes are aimed at introducing complete beginners to tango and those with just a little experience, but we will be looking at some of the fundamental aspects of the dance from a fresh perspective. If you do have any concerns, please drop us a line or give Roy a call before booking.

What should I bring into the event?
For the classes wear loose comfortable clothing that you can move freely in. Also bring flat soled leather shoes or dance shoes if you have them. If you only have grippy rubber soled shoes, a pair of sports socks worn over the toes will help you to pivot and turn. It’s not pretty, but it does work!

Also, a pair of large thick socks such as hiking socks would also be useful if you prefer to simply dance in those. High heels may not be appropriate this time as we will be dancing both roles, but you are welcome to bring them and try.

I really want to take this further, will there be more sessions?
Yes! There will be follow on courses as well as other opportunities to dance and develop your tango starting throughout the year.
