Learn Cartooning - 6 Evening Classes
Tue, 28 Feb 2017, 18:30 – Tue, 4 Apr 2017, 20:30 GMT
Cartooning is a great way to express yourself, tell personal stories and make people laugh. It’s like making a movie with your own actors, locations and scenarios.
In a series of fun exploratory classes, you’ll learn very PRACTICAL techniques for writing and creating your own unique cartoon. Finding a joke or a personal moment that you want to communicate – and then expressing it correctly can be a very rewarding and cathartic process.
You’ll be guided in your epic search for ideas, through fun and effective exercises. We’ll explore why good jokes are hard to remember, why the primate mind craves the gap between the unexpected and expected – why it thrives on crossing that gap – and how a cartoon can provide that explosive eureka moment.
With practical exercises you’ll experiment with the principles of visual storytelling, and discover how character and movement, and emotion can be expressed in a frozen panel. Like a cave painting, a cartoon can traverse language and even culture, and communicate with the oldest parts of our brains.
After each class you'll get a follow up email and exercises to practise. Together we’ll go in the trenches roughing and thumb-nailing our ideas, making lots of drafts of cartoons until they really start to hum. You’ll have plenty of guidance and feedback all the way up to your final completed piece.
If you trust in the process, you’ll be amazed at what you and your brain will produce along the way! And you’ll have lots of fun!
