Learn to make traditional Shetland cockleshell lace.

You will be taught Shetland lace knitting skills. Through guided instruction, participants will learn to work the key elements of cockleshell lace, including stitch structure, pattern reading and maintainiing tension and accuracy in lace knitting. We will create practise samples during the class, allowing time to understand the construction and build confidence with the techniques.

Knitting techniques include, knit, purl, knit through back and front of the stitch and decreasing multiple stitches together and so would suit the intermediate to advanced knitter, who would like to learn a new technique.

Skills covered include:

• Reading and working the cockleshell lace charts and written pattern instructions.
• Understanding Shetland lace structure
• Managing repeats
• Tips for achieving even tension in lace knitting

Light refreshments will be provided, along with sample yarn and the Kate Davies Betty Mouat cowl pattern is included in the class fee. Please bring your own needles, 3mm 60mm circular as well as stitch markers. There will be an opportunity to buy wool to start knitting the cowl either in class or afterwards.

You can cancel via Eventbrite up to 30 days before the event with no penalty.Eventbrite's fees are non-refundable, so they won't be returned to the ticket buyer unless the event is cancelled. Closer to the event there is a sliding refund scale, depending on the proximity to the event. Please inform me that you re withdrawing from the class with as much notice as possible.

Cancellations - if you need to cancel, please let me know as soon as you can so I can offer your ticket to someone on the waiting list. If a replacement cannot be found, the refund is 50% between 30 & 14 days before the event with no refund within 14 days. All efforts will be made to resell your ticket, allowing you a full refund.

If the class is cancelled you will receive a ful ticket refund, or the option to transfer onto a later class. Travel/accommodation expenses will not be refunded.

Under 18's must be accompanied by a ticketed participating adult. No children under 12.
