WHAT'S THE TOPIC FOR NOVEMBER? - DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

WHY THIS?

On the back of National Inclusion Week (#NIW2017) last week, and research conducted by PM Insight, this is an essential topic for organisations to engage with. Whether you believe we live in a VUCA world or not, creativity and innovation are essential in work and those qualities will only come through bringing and genuinely including different perspectives and approaches into the workplace's thinking.

LEARN

So in November we’re inviting four experts to come and share their knowledge and experience on some of the hot topics in the world of Diversity. You can read about Joanna, Sean, Deborah and Liz in this post.  They'll be sharing their wisdom in the areas of:

> Disadvantaged young people

> LGBT

> Menopause

> Mental Health

At Learn > Connect > Do we believe in an adult approach to learning and we like to do things informally so, for this event, the experts will be available around the room much like a conference exhibition hall – but without any hard sell! So you’ll get to choose which experts you spend your time with – whether that’s 1, 2, 3 or all 4 of them. It’ll be about relaxed conversations – learning, asking and exchanging ideas.

CONNECT

But this event isn’t just about gaining knowledge. We’re also going to explore the barriers - what stops us when it comes to having a diverse workforce.  What stops us being inclusive once they join?

We’ve been scared of difference in others for many years – just check out this video if you need evidence for that (thanks to Janice Keyes for the vid). And recent events prove this fear is still prevalent all around us. So we’ll be talking about this barrier and any others you encounter, understanding them and sharing ideas together for how to overcome them.

DO

If we keep doing the same things we’ll keep getting the same results. This is a chance for you to choose to do things differently, to make work better.

We’d love to see you there!

It’s going to be a bumper event with mince pies and, of course, Christmas-themed chocolate included!

DOING GOOD WHILE YOU LEARN

All profits from Learn > Connect > Do go to charity - that's at least £10 of your ticket price that goes to do good in the local community.  And the more people who come to the event, the more we can give!

Twnty:Twenty Logo

Our charity partner is Twenty:Twenty. So far this year we've donated nearly £200 and we'd love to give them a big boost this Christmas. The teams do fabulous work across the East Midlands supporting disadvanatged young people with their education and into work.  Here’s what they do in their Lifeskills Centres:

Our Lifeskills centres are safe but inspiring learning communities where young people who may have struggled to engage in study elsewhere can really thrive. They are 'can do' environments where TwentyTwenty staff and volunteers from the local community and nearby businesses join together with young people to give them the encouragement, teaching, skills training, personal development coaching, work experience and job opportunities they need to reach their goals.

Beyond your ticket price there are many ways you can support this great charity so do get in touch with them direct if you want to find out more about how you can help with work visits, work placements, doing an education session for these amazing young people.....many, many ways you can help.

IS LEARN > CONNECT > DO FOR YOU?

Learn > Connect > Do is for people who care about making work better.  You'll have people as the core focus of your work : HR, L&D, OD, coaching, leadership and management.

Watch what delegates say here:

LEARN > leave with something you didn’t have when you came in; every time we meet we have a new topic and a new facilitation approach to guide the conversation so you get double the learning.

CONNECT > meet others who also care about making work better and who bring a different perspective or experience to you, broadening your possibilities – so more learning!

DO > make a commitment to do something tangible in your work – things will only be different when we take different action.
