LEARN > CONNECT > DO : for people professionals who care about making work better

What's the topic for September?

Whatever's on your mind.  This quarter Street Wisdom is our facilitation approach.  It's like coaching but without a coach!  It's an event that involves walking in an urban environment, with your brain tuned up by your Street Wisdom guides, so that you pay attention to things you wouldn't normally notice.  The result is that, whatever you want to think about, your subconscious will guide your attention to the information and answers in the streets that are helpful to you.  We so rarely stop to reflect and choose the best path - this is exactly that opportunity.

What's important to you to think about or change just now?

Read what happened at our last StreetWisdom here

Street Wisdom workshops give participants the skills to see the urban environment in a new way, ask a question and use the answers they discover to move forwards in life. Why wait for escape to exotic destinations when inspiration can be found on your own doorstep?

This quarter, as you've seen, we’re using Street Wisdom, a powerful, facilitated approach to unlock the wisdom of the streets. Your own personal invisible university.  Claire Haynes and myself, Helen Amery, will be your facilitators for the afternoon.

After getting to know everyone, we'll set you off on a few short challenges to tune your brain up so that you'll be ready to pay better attention to what's around you.  Then you'll wander the streets on your own, seeing what answers emerge.  For the last part of the event we'll meet up in a lovely local pub to discuss each others different experiences.

What you’ll get

  1. Learn > Learn from the streets, share experiences and be part of a facilitation method that you could take back to work.

  2. Connect > Create new connections with people who care about the same things as you.

  3. Do > Leave with at least 3 new thoughts that you can shape into tangible actions back where you work.

All profits from Learn > Connect > Do go to charity.  In the past we've run Street Wisdom's for free but because we want to keep making a difference for our charity partner,Twenty:Twenty, and because we want to show appreciation to the Street Wisdom team (who are a not-for-profit) for making this event a real thing, we're making it a paid event.  So £10 of your ticket will go to StreetWisdom and £10 to Twenty Twenty.  The more people who come the more we can give!

We've been partnering with Twenty:Twenty since the start of 2017. They’re a fabulous charity who originally started in Loughborough and have since grown to Leicester and Derby and they have a huge connection to our roles as people professionals. Here’s what they do in their Lifeskills Centres:

Twnty:Twenty Logo

Our Lifeskills centres are safe but inspiring learning communities where young people who may have struggled to engage in study elsewhere can really thrive. They are 'can do' environments where TwentyTwenty staff and volunteers from the local community and nearby businesses join together with young people to give them the encouragement, teaching, skills training, personal development coaching, work experience and job opportunities they need to reach their goals.

Beyond your ticket price there are many ways you can support this great charity so do get in touch with them direct if you want to find out more about how you can help with work visits, work placements, doing an education session for these amazing young people.....many, many ways you can help.

Learn > Connect > Do is for people professionals who care about making work better.

LEARN > leave with something you didn’t have when you came in; every time we meet we have a new topic and a new facilitation tool to guide the conversation so you get double the learning.

CONNECT > meet others who also care about making work better and who bring a different perspective or experience to you, broadening your possibilities – so more learning!

DO > make a commitment to do something tangible in your work – things will only be different when we take different action.
