Richard Marsh is the CEO of Exeter Chamber, with an entrepreneurial story that will encourage, motivate and inspire you!
Starting out as a trainee at, RH Advertising, where he worked his way up to Director level and then, at the age of 32 led a management buyout becoming Managing Director. Whilst at RH advertising and through his client, Devon County Council, he led one of the UK’s first environmental campaigns, “Don’t let Devon Go To Waste”
After 16 years he sold his interests and moved into marketing consultancy starting The Marketing Department. This led him to work in both the South West and London .
Using this experience Richard then joined the private local company, Devon Waste Management, Devon’s largest waste management company, which led to a directorship and then as part of a team of four led a management buyout. Richard was a key driver in the business for the transition from a landfill operating waste management business primarily servicing local authority contracts to a highly successful business providing a resource recovery service to over 2500 commercial businesses under a new brand and company name, Coastal Recycling.
Richard along with his other three directors sold Coastal Recycling in May 2021 through the creation of an Employee Ownership Trust . Coastal Recycling is now owned and run for the benefit of its 200 staff.
In April 2022 Richard was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the Exeter Chamber of Commerce. He is a director of the charity, The Exeter City Community Trust and Chairman of the Devon Air Ambulance Capital Appeal Board.
