Learn How To Ferment: A beginner's guide with Maddy Norval
Discover the magic of fermentation in this hands-on workshop with Maddy Norval. Learn how to make sauerkraut and kombucha, and leave with the skills and confidence to keep fermenting at home. Fun, practical, and full of flavour!
Sauerkraut is an easy-to-make ferment using just cabbage and salt, and a great introduction to making your own lactofermented goodies at home. Maddy will talk about salt ratios, how to avoid unwanted bacteria, and the benefits of fermented foods on your gut microbiome.
Kombucha is a fizzy, fermented tea that uses a culture of symbiotic bacteria and yeasts to make a healthy, tangy drink full of probiotic goodness. You will get to make a small bottle of your own kombucha to take home, which you can then use to make your own bigger batch! Learn how to invent your own flavours in the secondary fermentation and how to control the amount of fizz and tang to suit your taste.
We will provide the ingredients and materials for both ferments, and you can take home a jar of sauerkraut and a bottle of kombucha to try, along with a recipe to follow for both.
