Join corn-dolly maker Sue Tomkins for a relaxing and informative morning, starting with a brief introduction to the history of corn dollies and straw work. With Sue's help you will then make a traditional Welsh Fan from the Welsh Borders (pictured) which is worked flat so a good starting piece. You will also learn how to make the heart shape (pictured above), which is also a traditional design called a Mordiford and comes from Mordiford in Devon. It is worked with 5, 6 or 7 straws usually, this one uses six. The last corn dolly Sue will show you is a small basket using 5 straws in a spiral plait (pictured). If time allows and people are confident enough, we can progress this to make a traditional Drop Dolly (also shown).

Cost: £25 per person - includes materials.

Skill level: Suitable for beginners.
