About this event

Learn Karate - Discovery Session

Karate is a great way to get fit, improve your mental resilience, build strength, improve flexibility and boost your confidence.

If you’re thinking of giving Karate a go, why not come to our free taster session in Canterbury on any Monday or Thursday evening at 7pm?

Sochin Karate Club train at Kendall Hall, next to St Mary Bredin Church, Nunnery Fields, Canterbury. Training with us is very affordable with sessions usually costing just £6.

(Note: Currently the club is running a This Girl Can campaign and has a number of places available for women and teenage girls at a heavily subsidised rate thanks to funding support from Active Kent and Medway. Pop down to the club to find out more).

Sessions are held on Monday and Thursday evenings from 7pm to 8.30pm.

Places are limited to enable our beginners to train with a range of skilled Karateka. The club is led by a team of black belts and club chairman, Sensei Georges, who is a Sixth Dan and has been a Karateka for more than 50 years.

Whether you're a total newbie or have dabbled a bit, these sessions are perfect for anyone looking to learn the basics of this martial art. Our experienced instructors will guide you through the fundamentals of Karate, from stances to strikes. Get ready to build strength, improve flexibility, and boost your confidence. Don't miss out on this opportunity to kickstart your Karate journey.

Note: Sochin Karate Club does cater for young people of secondary school age. See details and restrictions in the FAQ below.

Frequently asked questions

What do I wear?

We recommend you wear jogging bottoms or similar and a top that allows full body movement and will not impede leg and arm swings. Please take off all jewellery and tie back long hair. We train in bare feet.

How frequently will I train?

Ideally you will train every Monday and Thursday evening (7pm to 8.30pm) but a number of club members only train once a week - this is fine but you will not progress as fast.

Is there an age restriction on who can attend?

Young people aged from 14 to 17 can attend on their own providing they have parental permission. Young people aged from 11 to 13 may attend only if their responsible adult is also taking part in the training session.
