About this event

Start your journey into a new hobby that you can take with you wherever you go!

Crochet is a supremely portable hobby; all you need is a hook, yarn, small scissors and a tapestry needle. They will tuck in the corner of a small bag and I love to pull them out as an alternative to scrolling on my phone whenever I am out and about and I have the satisfaction of having made something pretty!

Working at your pace, I will teach you as many stitches as we can fit in two hours. By the end of this workshop you will have enough knowledge to make basic projects, understand the lingo and continue on your learning journey - or you can come to the next workshop to learn more with me!

Hobbies are meant to be fun, and my workshop is run with that in mind: there's no pressure to learn quickly, we will work at a pace that's comfortable for you, aiming to make sure you have a solid foundation to build on. You may learn one or two stitches, or you may learn half a dozen - either's great!

You'll take away a tutorial sheet of crochet stitches and a small sampler of the stitches you have learned.

About Elena

I have been sewing and crocheting since childhood, and while my mum and grandma showed me the basics, I am mostly self-taught. About 15 years ago I started sewing more regularly, making dance costumes for my daughter's dance schools, and this has developed into a small business to which I have added my crochet work, which mostly includes jewellery and miniature art.

Crochet is my therapy; it takes my mind away from overthinking, relaxes me and is fun!

Our local 'Coopers' - the crafters and makers that sell in the shop - also tend to offer workshops and activities in line with their skills at most of shops. This varies widely from learning basic craft techniques - crochet, decoupage, glasspainting - to making bath bombs, screenprinting and jewellery making - plus we love offering seasonal ideas like needlefelting pumpkins or making sustainable advent calendars!
