Learn how to make a lovely hand-knitted scarf at this interactive workshop.

In this beginner’s knitting class, you’ll learn the essentials to get you started on your project.

  • Getting ready to knit: equipment, types of yarn
  • Basic stitches: Casting on/off, knit (stocking) stitch and purl stitch
  • Designing a simple scarf without a pattern

You will be guided through the step by step process of knitting your scarf, and will be able to take equipment and materials home to complete your project.

  • Driving: The closest pay and display car parks are on East Topping St and Talbot Road multi storey. There is also parking at the nearby Sainsbury’s supermarket, please make sure that you check the terms before you use the car park.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know how to knit?

No this is a beginners activity. We will work as though this is everyone's first time knitting. If you do have some knitting experience, you are more than welcome to attend, but we ask you to be patient with the group members who are new to it.

Can I take home what I make?

Yes, you will be able to take your scarf home as well as your knitting needles and wool to finish your project.

How much does it cost to attend?

This session is free. It has been supported by Blackpool Council to help with the rising Cost of Living. If you book tickets and are no longer able to attend, please let us know as we think that this session will be very popular.

Is there a suggested age for this workshop?

This session is suitable for people over 12 years of age. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. If the chaperone would like to take part in the activity, they need to book their own ticket to make sure that we have enough supplies and equipment.

What time do I need to arrive?

Please arrive 5-10mins before the session start time.
