Event description
Calling budding lace knitters! Discover the joys of lace knitting and knit a lace shawl in this 5 week Knitalong course

About this event

  • Are you looking to take your knitting to the next level?
  • Do you think of lace knitting as complex and daunting?
  • Do you want to knit a project that will instinctively build on your knitting skills as you knit each section?
  • Do you want to find out why learning to read knitting charts can be the best thing ever when it comes to lace knitting?
  • Do you want to knit your first lace project as a knitalong with other like-minded knitters and with on-hand tuition and support every 'stitch' of the way?

If your answer is yes to any of these questions then come and join this series of classes and discover how much fun lace knitting can be!

The good news about lace knitting is that you only need to know a handful of stitches to start knitting stunning shawls or garments.

In this course we will be knitting the Dappled Days shawl. This shawl was designed specifically with the new lace knitter in mind. Worked from the top down and triangular in shape, this generous sized shawl alternates between sections of garter stitch and has 4 lace stripes. Each of the lace sections expands on the previous one so you start of with a simple diamond motif, and then build on your skills for each section.

We will also look at knitting charts and discover why they are a game changer when it comes to lace knitting!

The class is spread over 5 weeks with Live Zoom calls once a week from 8-9pm (UK time).

Week 1 - 08/11

  • Casting on using a Garter Tab
  • Getting started
  • Establishing the increases and learning to 'read' the stitches

Week 2 - 15/11

  • Starting the 1st Lace Section
  • How to read a Knitting Chart
  • Using the chart to knit a lace diamond motif

Week 3 - 22/11

  • Starting the 2nd Lace Section
  • Understanding how lace stitches relate to each other
  • How to quickly identify and fix any errors

Week 4 - 29/11

  • Starting the 3rd Lace Section
  • Working lace stitches on the WS (wrong side) of your work

Week 5 - 06/12

  • Starting the 4th Lace Section
  • How to deal with varying stitch counts
  • I-cord bind-off demonstration

At the end of the course you will have knitted a lovely, big cozy shawl and have the know-how to go on and knit more lace projects.
