Ready to explore the great outdoors with confidence?Whether you’ve never touched a compass or just want to sharpen your map skills, this two-day course will take you from the basics of navigation to confidently finding your way in the mountains.
Our friendly, experienced instructors will guide you through everything from reading maps and using a compass to planning routes and staying safe out there. You’ll spend day one learning and practicing in lowland and forest terrain, then put your new skills to the test in the stunning mountain landscapes around Betws-y-Coed on day two.
What You’ll Learn
Day 1 – Lowland & Forest Navigation (09:00 – 16:00)
- Different types of maps, scales, and symbols
- How to plan and follow a route using landmarks
- Compass basics – bearings and orientation
- Translating the landscape to the map (and vice versa)
- Distance estimation using timing
- Handy navigation aids (apps, GPS devices)
Day 2 – Mountain Navigation Adventure (09:00 – 16:00)
- A guided journey where you take the lead
- Practice all the skills from day one in mountain terrain
- Learn advanced techniques to boost your confidence

- Minimum of 4 participants for the course to run (full refund if we cancel – minus Eventbrite fees)
- No refunds unless we cancel, but you can transfer your ticket to someone else
- Please bring the right kit or you may be unable to join: waterproofs (top & bottoms), sturdy boots, warm layers, hat/gloves, personal first aid kit, lunch & snacks, water, and a torch with spare batteries
