Description

The focus of the 'Learn to Mow' course is practical skills and learning-by-doing so you finish the day ready to continue on your own.
This short course covers:
* Features and advantages of the Austrian scythe
* How to set up the scythe to your size & adjust the blade
* Ergonomic mowing style for more efficient cutting and less stress on the body
* Sharpening in the field
* Peening (hammering the blade to shape the edge as part of the sharpening process)
* Care & maintenance
Your teacher, Steve Tomlin is the leading scythe teacher in Britain, is author of the 'Learn to Scythe' book and is the Training Coordinator of the Scythe Association (Britain & Ireland) and has spent time in Europe.
You will need to bring suitable clothing and footwear (steel toe caps are not necessary), as well as packed lunch.
Scythe kits will be available to buy on the day, priced at £185 (cash or cheque). Details of the kit are at https://stevetomlincrafts.wordpress.com/scythes/buy-a-scythe-kit/
Cost: £20 for orchard carers. £60 for others.

Helping Britain Blossom is working with communities all over Leeds for our city to become an "Orchard City". This is part of our training programme to make sure the trees and orchard groups are healthy and happy.
