Learn to Sew: Absolute Beginner
Thu 6 April 2017, 18:30 – 21:00 BST
Have you got a new sewing machine but don’t know where to start?
Or has your machine been hiding in a cupboard for years and you’ve lost your confidence?
This workshop is for you.
Bring your machine along and learn all about it.
Here are some of the questions you may have:
What do the dials and buttons do?
How do I thread the machine?
What’s a bobbin and how does it fit in?
Why do I need to adjust the tension?
What do all the different stitches do? And why do I need them?
What are these extra feet and bits of equipment for?
How do I get started?
You will get the answers to these and lots more questions. You will learn all the basics of your machine and also get a change to have a go.
The workshop is run by Toni Jarvis, who currently runs the Tiger Green Textiles ‘Community Recycling Workshops’. With years of industry experience on both domestic and industrial machines, Toni can turn her hand to producing a variety of items from clothing through to crafts and soft furnishings.
Once we’ve been through all the basics you will get to make a lavender bag. A simple project that will get you used to controlling the machine, joining fabric together, filling the pouch, inserting a ribbon holder and topstitching.
Take your Lavender Bag home with you and feel proud of your achievement.
If you haven't purchased your machine yet and want to borrow one of ours please let us know when booking.
