Event description

Description

This course (The course is for 6 weeks the final lesson will be on the 24th October) is aimed at people with little, or no, experience of using a sewing machine. You can bring your own machine with you or use one of our machines for the duration of the course.

Over the 6 weeks attendees will be shown how to look after their sewing machine, how to sew in straight lines, curves, turning corners, using zig-zag stitches and more.

Using these skills attendees will learn how to make a pillow, a tote bag, a cushion, a Japanese style apron and a pair of casual trousers!

As well as using a standard sewing machine attendees will also learn how to use an overlocking machine.

In addition to learning how to use the sewing machines, attendees will also learn about the properties of materials and fabrics, how to read and use a pattern, and marking and cutting out. All this will ensure that the clothes you make are a good fit.

While some materials are provide for practice you will need to purchase some others. We have some materials available for sale but you may also purchase your own. Please wait until after the first lesson before purchase. Ellie will advise you as to the best type of material to purchase.

The course is delivered by Ellie White, a fashion design graduate from the University of Salford. She has over ten years experience in designing and making outfits and clothes, both formally and for pleasure.. She has run sewing workshops for both children and adults, and currently creates costumes for independent film makers region wide.

The course is for 6 weeks the final lesson will be on the 24th October 2019. This ticket only covers the cost of the first week, attendees will pay cash £10 each week after.

Please note: Places are strictly limited and we expect the course will quickly sell out.
