Learn to Sew with Laura Griffin

Join for a one day beginner workshop where you'll get to know our sewing machine and create a handmade project to take home. No experience needed!

In this one day course you will cover sewing machine essentials like threading, tensions and different stitches. You will complete a bag project and gain skills to start sewing independently.

Bring your own machine or hire one from the studio, choose add on in the payment section. You also have the option to purchase a sewing kit that you can take home with you.

Otherwise equipment and fabric is provided. Looking forward to sewing with you!

This is a small class of 6 so you will have ample opportunity for 1:1 guidance and support.

Is this course accessible?

No, we apologise that unfortunately this location does not have accessible access at the moment.

Do I need to bring anything?

Yourself and your machine if you have one! Build confidence with your own machine, otherwise you can hire one from us. We will be making a bag so you are welcome to bring some of your own fabric for this. All other tools and equipment will be provided.

Will fabric be provided for the project?

Yes fabric will be provided for the bag project. If you would like to bring your own we will need two metres of cotton drill.

Does my machine need PAT testing?

Yes if you are to bring your own machine, please come along at 9.30am for PAT testing so that we have the all clear on H&S with our electrical equipment.

Will there be breaks?

Yes we will stop for two short breaks during the day and a lunch break.

Are there other courses?

Yes! Throughout October I will be running an evening course, covering two other sewing projects. I hope to launch some other courses for November.

Who is the teacher?

Laura Griffin is a tailor, seamstress and tutor based in Margate. Her career has spanned 20 years tailoring for special occasions, costume for TV/film and bespoke clothing commissions. www.lauragriffin.co.uk @_laura_griffin
