Description
A relaxed and fun sewing workshop suitable for complete beginners and those with a little experience. Join us to make your own 16" cushion cover - all materials and equipment provided, including a 100% duck feather cushion pad. Starting with the basics we will introduce you to using a sewing machine, to create an 'envelope back' cover, including hemming edges. There will be an option to give the inside of your cushion cover a professional finish using an industrial overlocker, which cleverly neatens the raw edge. You can also give the cover a unique twist with a simple decorative blanket stitch, to give you some practice with hand sewing. A range of fabrics will be provided, some reclaimed to reduce our environmental impact - go funky and bright or toning and subtle - whichever suits your mood and your decor!
FAQs
How do I get to Bristol Textile Quarter?
BTQ is five/ten minutes’ walk from Temple Meads Train Station and plenty of buses stop at the station. If you are driving there is free on street parking on Barton Road outside the studio on Saturdays and Sundays. Other local streets have pay and display parking on Saturdays.

NOTE: This postcode will take you to the wrong end of Barton Road – please check the map below; we are where the arrow is!
Our building is a three-storey redbrick building (Midland Road end) with 2 red roller shutter doors almost opposite the Barley Mow pub. Our entrance is the grey and white double door to the left of the left hand side red roller shutter and there is a buzzer next to it – ring through to BTQ/Antiform and we’ll open up for you!
Do I need to bring anything?
No, all equipment and materials will be provided and you will be able to take home any items you have made. Just a word of warning, we are not centrally heated, and although we have electric heaters, if you think you might need to, bring an extra layer. It should be comfortable enough though.
How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
Feel free to email or call Mary if you have further questions. maryyarwood@yahoo.co.uk 07815 553849
What's the refund policy?
A full refund is available if you cancel with at least 7 days notice. After that your workshop fee can be transferred to another Dear Gussie workshop or product.
Is the venue accessible for disabled people?
BTQ is all on the ground floor level, with ramp access. Unfortunately the toilet is not big enough to access with a wheelchair but can be accessed on foot.
Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
If you are unable to attend for any reason your fee can be transferred to another date or another participant. Please just let us know as soon as possible.
Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?
Yes, as long as you let us know who is coming.
I'm hopeless at sewing! Can I still come?
Yes! You are just the sort of person we hope to encourage to get started. If you can already sew you are also very welcome - hopefully this workshop will add to your skills and you'll enjoy some weekend 'me-time'!
Will there be refreshments?
Yes, we will be providing coffee, tea and biscuits/cake
