This is the second meeting of the CIPD Northamptonshire Branch Learning and Organisation Development Group (which was previously known as the TNG - Training Network Group). The topic for this event is Leadership with Integrity: The Real Deal and it will be led by John McLachlan from Monkey Puzzle Training.
There’s a lot of talk about authentic leadership, so why is it so difficult to develop in leaders? Research for our 'Real leaders for the Real World' book identified that inconsistent behaviour and a lack of integrity in others was a major issue in organisations. Developing integrity in leadership has more to do with a leader’s emotional regulation that their level of skill.
Emotional regulation is the ability to express and feel the appropriate emotions in any given context. Most people do not develop this naturally and as such fight, flight a freeze reactions are usually a little overactive which can lead to inappropriate and unhelpful responses to day to day issues. Leaders need to be able to rise above and think beyond the issues and problems of every day and so their need for emotional development is greater. To develop integrity leaders need to be able to trust their inner compass and to do this they must be able to accurately interpret their emotional reactions. In this session John will share with you the output from our research and explore:
• How Leaders become the Real Deal
• Why emotional regulation is the foundation upon which all leadership skills are built
• The common emotional development needs of leaders and how to meet these in an organisational context - without therapy!
• The key traits Real Leaders exhibit
• The Path to developing an integrity you can trust
• How to spot leaders with the potential to develop high levels of integrity
