This is the first meeting of the CIPD Northamptonshire Branch Learning and Organisation Development Group (which was previously known as the TNG - Training Network Group). The topic for this event is Leading and Engaging with Strengths and it will be led by Mike McClellan from ThinkingOn.
The aim of the sessions is to tntroduce the concept of strengths-based working, give delegates ways to identify and develop their own strengths and to explore how strengths-based working fits in an organisational setting. The session will help delegates to:
• Identify their own strengths and spot strengths in others
• Understand the relationship between strengths-based working and engagement
• Explore ways to get the most from strengths at work, and how to help others do the same
• Consider the impact of non-strengths, and what can be done about them
• Take away some ideas for introducing and developing strengths-based working for themselves and their organisation
The session is highly interactive with practical exercises, group discussions, and an emphasis on shared exploration of how strengths can enhance individual and organisational performance. There will also be insights into and tips on selecting the best strength profiling tool. For HR practitioners we will consider the business case for, and challenges presented by strengths-based working in the organisational setting. For L&D practitioners we'll explore how strengths can help direct an individual's development efforts (and how to invest your training budget for best returns) and whether 'development' really is the solution to fixing weaknesses.
Mike McClellan has spent over 15 years helping leaders and teams develop and enhance their performance. He has worked across a range of sectors including property, finance, insurance, retail and manufacturing. He enjoys coaching individuals and teams, with a particular interest in effecting long-term transformational changes to mindsets, thinking patterns and ways of working. Supported by his experience with personality profiling tools, his approach has proved highly effective in elevating performance even in well-established teams.
Mike is fascinated by what drives people’s behaviour, particularly their innate motivators, which led to his interest in Positive Psychology, and in particular strengths and strengths-based working. Such is his love for the subject he chose a particular aspect of strengths development as the topic for his MSc research thesis. Despite this he still loves strengths: learning more about them, their use in the workplace, and how to help people identify and tap into their own.
In 2015 Mike founded ThinkingOn Ltd with one core belief: great company performance should not come at the cost of staff. So ThinkingOn Ltd specialises in helping clients to engage and motivate their staff through developing great leadership, using strengths-based working and embedding practices which ensure employees feel valued and respected.
