Come and join the Speech and Language training team to learn how to use colourful semantics to support language development. You will come away from the training with :


  • An understanding of Colourful Semantics as an approach to support language development.
  • With the knowledge of the benefits of using Colourful Semantics and which children this approach is suitable for.
  • The ability to use the Colourful Semantics approach with a range of practical activity ideas and opportunities to practise using the system.
  • An understanding of how to apply the approach within the classroom.


This training session is appropriate for all teaching staff working with children and young people.

This training session will be face-to-face through a mix of written slides and spoken information. This training is delivered as part of a small, hands-on, group workshop. A link to where you can download relevant handouts will be sent out via Eventbrite, at least a few days before the session start date.

Please note:


  • There will be a maximum of 20 attendees for this small group workshop.
  • Only 2member of teaching staff per setting is able to assess this training (but please do contact the team directly if further places are required as we may be able to accommodate you – hct.slttraining@nhs.net)
  • Booking will close two weeks prior to the date of the training.
  • Please get in touch prior to the session if you have any special requirements to enable you to access the session.

Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust Children and Young People’s (CYP) Speech and Language Therapy service offers a child and family-centred approach to support CYP with speech, language, communication needs (SLCN) and those with eating and drinking difficulties in Hertfordshire.

We work in partnership with parents, carers, health and education professionals to promote positive outcomes for CYP. Our service model aims to reduce the gap and inequalities amongst CYP in Hertfordshire who have SLCN.
