Event description

Description

This session will be delivered by Robert Koglek, Head of Service, Marta Tarasiuk and Natalie Schafer, Social Pedagogues in the London Borough of Hackney.

Social pedagogy is a field for theory, policy and practice, sometimes referred to as ‘education in the broadest sense’. It is an emerging field in the UK, where theory and practice is concerned with finding solutions to social problems through an educational lens. In public policy, social pedagogy covers measures that take a broadly educational approach to social issues, either alongside or instead of other policy options. It is an academic field with its own theories which draws from psychological and sociological perspectives.

This session will provide a brief overview of social pedagogy and its principles and will demonstrate these by using interactive and practical exercises.

This half-day session aims to:

  1. Provide an overview of Social Pedagogy and its possibilities.

  2. Review social pedagogic tools which can be utilised in practice when working with children, young people and adults.

  3. Support participants to reflect on their own practice and identify areas where social pedagogy could be beneficial.
