Who is this event for?

Teachers, teaching assistants and senior school leaders interested in the value of art and design in a broad and balanced curriculum. There are only 15 places, so please book up as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

About the twilight

A chance to learn more about the approach taken by Barncroft Primary School during a new pilot project – Learning Through Craft and how they worked with professional gilder, Richard Walker. Learn more about how children got involved and what they learnt. Find out about Artsmark from Lorraine Cheshire, Education Development Manager, Artswork and about Arts Award from Lynne Dick, Director at Making Space.

Learning Through Craft Took place in 2017/18 and aimed to ignite teachers' interest in and understanding of the value of craft in children's creative, cultural and intellectual development. It aimed to inspire teachers and craft artists to exchange knowledge and skills; become advocates for craft in education; making craft accessible to and understood by young children.

3.45pm A Summary of Learning Through Craft by Lynne Dick

3.55pm Craft in the classroom – value and impact by Tracey Elliott

4.10pm Gilding approaches, tools and materials with Richard Walker (hands on)

4.30pm Arts Award – a brief introduction by Lynne Dick

4.40pm Artsmark – a brief introduction by Lorraine Cheshire

4.55pm Next steps – Expressions of interest to get more involved (Cultural Education Partnership and more Learning Through Craft)
