More about the morning sessions
In the morning you will be able to attend two of the hour long sessions, one from each list below.
Session 1 options:
- Let’s take the girls away (GAW 1-4) - Modules 1-4 of the Going Away With licence allow you to run a sleepover with any section. The GAW team will be going through these modules and what’s involved. Ideal for those working on their GAW qualification or wanting to find out more about what’s involved in an overnight or residential.
- Risk Assessments - Turning a dormant template into a living document for your group. This session will cover the latest Covid elements but the content will be relevant for any risk assessment writing, now or in the future.
- Leading a team (for unit Leaders) - Teamwork makes the dream work! We’ve all heard that phrase before, but if you are the main unit Leader for your group, how can you lead your team to ensure everyone is involved and happy? Come along to this session to find out.
- Fundraising and Grants - There are lots of ways to fundraise for your unit and many grants available out there if you know where to look and how to apply. Come along to this session for some pointers to raise your unit income without needing to ask parents to put their hands in their pockets.
- Inclusion - Ensuring we provide a warm welcome to everyone that wants to join us is so important but being open to the idea of having a child with additional needs or a disability in your unit can be daunting if you’ve never experienced it. This session will help to break down some anxieties and barriers so that every child hears ‘yes’ when they ask if they can join us.
- STEM ideas for Rainbows & Brownies - This session will give you some ideas for including Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Rainbow and Brownie sessions.
Session 2 options:
- Catering, programme & facilities (GAW 5-7) - An extension to the earlier GAW session, for those that want to take 2 or more nights away, the GAW team will be going through modules 5, 6 & 7 and what’s required for Brownies and Guides. Ideal for those working on their GAW qualification or wanting to find out more about what’s involved in a residential.
- YL session for Leaders - Young Leaders and other U18 volunteers are a valuable resource and our Leaders of the future so it’s important that we look after them and nurture them. This session will help you understand the different U18 volunteer roles and how you can support them to the benefit of the unit, the volunteer team and the young volunteer themselves.
- How to run a wide game - Wide games, as their name suggests, are games played over a wide area. Come along to this session to find out about the different types of wide game and how you can create your own around whatever theme the girls come up with next!
- Viewing the programme from another angle - Sometimes the programme can become a barrier to providing the fun activities we know the girls enjoy. This session will look at how to ensure your sessions are girl-led and exciting, whilst still including programme activities' aims and objectives.
- STEM ideas for Guides & Rangers - This session will give you some ideas for including Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Guide and Ranger sessions.
- Five minute fillers for Rainbows & Brownies - We’ve all done that activity that didn’t quite take as long as we had thought it would! With that in mind, a bank of five minute fillers is essential in any unit. This session will give you some new ideas for filling those gaps in a Rainbow or Brownie session. We also encourage you to share your ideas with the other learners.
