Event description

Description

This event is funded by Cornwall and the IOS Safeguarding Adults Board and is free to attend for those people who live or work in Cornwall or the IoS. Booking is essential ( this is done by clicking the green register button on the EventBright page.

The Care Act talks about the need to think about a person's ability to consent to their Safeguarding process. But what do we mean by consent? do we recognise what consent looks like to be able to determine if someone lacks capacity to consent? It can be confusing, and anxiety provoking. Research ( Preston Shoots etal) suggests that ptactitioners ate more likely to assess a person as lacking capacity when the situation they are in is risky, our anxiety takes over and we can become parternalistic.

Paul Wilkins, Cornwall's DoLS Team Manager, leads this workshop to help practitioners from all areas of Health and Social Care to explore issues around consent, and how to embed best practice into your everyday work.
