Learning together/ Supporting Healthy Relationships = Empowerment & Prevent...
Tue 16 May 2017, 09:00 – 12:30 BST
Often we think of Safeguarding Adults in terms of protection. This can lead us to be risk averse in terms of supporting people with starting and maintaining close relationships with others. Whilst we may think we are "doing the right thing" we may be at risk of engaging an individual's Human Rights, in particular Article 8 Right to Private and Family Life and Article 12 Right to Marry and Start a Family. Often, there are opportunities for services and their staff to provide someone with information which could empower them to take control of their relationships but due to a lack of training / fear it remains a missed opportunity.
This 1/2 day workshop is hosted by FreeBird Associates on behalf of Cornwall & Isle of Scilly Safeguarding Adults Board. The workshop itself is facilitated by our friends from SHOCT Kernow, an HIV and Sexual Health Information Service, and Erya, a Community Interest Company run by and for people with a label of Learning Disability. Together they will help us to exlore the importance of relationships for people who have care and support needs and provide us with information that we can share; as SHOCT Kernow says "knowledge is learning, empowerment and protection'
