Event description

Description

Deliverd by: Sally Hickson & Polly Turner

The importance of designing a curriculum to maximise students’ learning cannot be underestimated. The curriculum is more than the sum of intended learning outcomes, content and assessment. There needs to be genuinely clear and achievable intended learning outcomes (ILOs), thoughtful teaching and learning activities and assessments designed in such a way that contributes to an environment that encourages students to willingly develop a deep understanding, rather than merely reproducing information (Diseth 2007; Phan 2011; Ramsden 2003).

In this session, participants will be challenged to consider how they construct their curriculum, or part thereof, and think differently about formative and summative assessments as well as engaging students in the process of formative assessment as part of the learning journey.

By attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Apply the concepts of curriculum alignment and consider ways in which they can change their practice in this area.

  • Consider differently, the role of assessments as part of the learning journey.

  • Be enthused and equipped to be more innovative and student-inclusive with formative assessments.

The Academy for Education and Professional Development’s mission is “To ensure consistent high-quality development and delivery of educational programmes with student experience at their heart”.
