Description

Leave no one behind: A city-wide symposium on the community perspective of Belfast City Council’s Local Development Plan

Our ‘Leave No One Behind’ Symposium will explore how best to involve citizens and local communities in contributing to and developing the plan.

We will look at what this new plan for Belfast will mean to you as a citizen and to your neighbourhood, your community, your business, your organization, etc.

Our aim is to open a deeper dialogue and engagement inviting local communities and citizens to shape the future of our city, and to articulate the alliances, relationships and engagements between communities, arts & culture, health sector, education sector, local authorities, private sector including SMEs, and developers.

The Aims are:

  • To turn the tables from a top-down approach to planning

  • To explore and examine the strengths and successes of community-based development planning through examples of good practice

  • To build a local development plan for Belfast that explores community-based models, including:

- Neighbourhood Planning – lessons from best practice
- Community Gain models
- To look at community-led development models

  • BUT most importantly, we will critically analyse and respond to Belfast City Council’s consultation on the Preferred Options Paper for the Local Development Plan under five themes:

    - Smart Connected and Resilient Place

    - Liveable Place

    - Vibrant Economy

    - Green Active Place

    - The Role of Arts/Culture, Heritage and Youth - missing voices.

The audience is encouraged to actively participate and will have the opportunity to discuss and give feedback. The Symposium discussions and feedback will then form a response to the Local Development Plan Preferred Options Paper consultation which is open till 20th April 2017.
