Event description
A lecture exploring Scotland's Hydropathic institutions in the ninenteenth century.

About this Event

In the nineteenth century, Scotland, a tiny country, hosted no less than 20 Hydropathic institutions. These were to be found throughout Scotland including two in Edinburgh. How this came about, who went there and what happened in this boom and bust industry will be discussed. After retiring from the NHS, Jane Neil-MacLachlan has forged another career as writer and novelist under the pen name of Jane Tulloch. A keen forager into local social history, her interest has led her into many interesting nooks and crannies of Scottish life.
