1 out of 3 UK employers regard soft skills as more important than academic achievements. 2 out of 3 employers reject young candidates because they can’t articulate their skills.
Organisations across Leeds are exploring how digital badges can help tackle these challenges. By recognising, celebrating, and tracking skills development with digital badges. Giving people clear pathways and a verifiable way to demonstrate and share what they know and can do.
This session offers practical insights, thought-provoking conversations, and of course, coffee and donuts. You'll also walk away with professionally designed, ready-to-use badge programmes for volunteering and work experience that you can start using right away in your own setting.
Volunteering and Work Experience We know how challenging it can be to deliver meaningful volunteering and work experience opportunities, from recognising everyone involved to tracking and showcasing impact. That’s where digital badges come in. They offer a simple, free way to acknowledge contributions, build confidence, and make achievements visible to employers, educators, and the wider community.
Volunteer Team LeedsDeveloped in partnership with Leeds City Council, the University of Leeds, and Voluntary Action Leeds, this suite of badges celebrates volunteers, trainers, and leaders who champion valuable volunteering across the city.
WorkSkills: Work Experience BadgesCreated by experts from the Leeds Learning Alliance, these badges recognise young people who complete work experience. They also support staff in preparing students for placements and celebrate the employers who provide those valuable opportunities.
Both programmes are completely free, simple to use, and offer one-click verification and sharing. They're ideal for CVs, LinkedIn profiles, and organisational recognition.
