Event description

Description

The SOYO talk brings together 3 practices and different disciplines to give an insight into this complicated city centre site and its intentions toward the city.

Andrew Gardner, Partner at DLG Architects, will present an overview of the master planning and design of a new neighbourhood surrounding the old Quarry Hill site. SOYO provides the opportunity to create a new identity for the area and consolidate the work done by the arts organisations on Quarry Hill to make this a thriving cultural quarter. The project introduces a mix of uses and combines high-quality, contemporary landscaping and informal building geometry to ensure a pedestrian-friendly space.

John Simpson, Senior Landscape Architect, will talk about how Re-Form addressed placemaking and social cohesion through the landscape masterplan. The presentation looks at an overview of public realm within the wider city centre, the challenges of integrating the landscape into its context and an overview of the key spaces created and future works under consideration.

Michael Giblin, Associate at Ellis Williams Architects, will talk about the new Leeds City College Quarry Hill Campus. The challenges of delivering a new 15,000sq.m Further Education Campus on a prestigious city centre site and its integration with the emerging SOYO masterplan and Leeds Playhouse developments.

All the talks are kindly sponsored and supported by Leeds Corn Exchange, NorDan and RIBA Yorkshire
