Event description
A walk that takes you back to late Georgian Leeds

About this Event

Two hundred years ago Leeds was in the thick of the ‘industrial revolution’. Who were the influential people and what were the main events of note? How were the townspeople earning their living and what were they concerned about? What was the state of health care, education and cultural life? How did people, materials, goods, energy and ideas move around? Where was it all heading?

Come and imagine yourself meeting the characters and seeing some of the places where they lived and learned, worked and worshipped, dispensed medical care, justice, credit or beer.

We meet beside The Third White Cloth Hall, Crown Street, LS2 7DA - known these days as Pizza Express, but that's hardly a Georgian feature.

You have a chance to do Part I of this tour earlier in the day - see https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/leeds-in-1819-part-i-holbeck-to-briggate-tickets-75120468343

If you can't devote the entire day to time travel, then be assured that you won't land in 1819 feeling all at sea. I plan to send out a little précis of the background ahead of 29 December for all participants and will start the afternoon with a bit of a recap.
