Event description
Where should Leeds transport be in 2030? How should we change? Come and debate these issues. Event in association with Our Future Leeds

About this Event

Leeds Civic Trust has produced a vision for transport in Leeds. This lays down a set of principles and focuses on a number of key issues that aim to create a better transport system for Leeds.

This event, which we are delighted to hold in association with Our Future Leeds (ourfutureleeds.org) formally launches this transport vision by asking where Leeds transport should be in 2030. We have invited a number of people with different perspectives on to give a series of short interventions on this topic, followed by discussion and Q & A. They include:

  • Paul Chatterton, Professor of Urban Futures University of Leeds
  • Ruth Gelletlie, Leeds Living Streets Group
  • Rob Greenland, Co-director Social Business Brokers CIC
  • Cllr Lisa Mulherin, Executive Board Member for Climate Change, Transport and Sustainable Development
  • Martin Stanley, Leeds Cycling Campaign
  • Leah Stuart,Associate Director Civic Engineers (member of the QPS group)

David Ellis, transport expert and social historian will chair the discussion.

Putting our ideas into practice: Leeds – the Liveable city: a competition

We also be launching a competition to show how a part of the city could be transformed by applying the principles included in our transport vision. We will invite members of the public, stakeholders and businesses to re-imagine an area of the city currently dominated by highways. We will ask them to consider how it could become an attractive, green and people friendly place with good pedestrian, cycling and public transport links.

The area we have chosen is the east side of inner city Leeds – an area that is car-dominated but has the potential to be transformed. Following a series of workshops over the next few months, the most compelling ideas will be drawn together into a scheme and report to be produced by professionals, and this will be presented to Leeds City Council in the new year.

Tea and coffee will be served before the event, and a glass of wine during the mid-session break.

We look forward to seeing you there
