Event description
YLAL Leeds: First meeting.

About this Event

Young Legal Aid Lawyers (YLAL) is a group of aspiring and junior lawyers (around 3,000+ members in England and Wales) who are committed to practising in those areas of law, both criminal and civil, that have traditionally been publicly funded. YLAL’s objectives are:

· To campaign for a sustainable legal aid system which provides good quality legal help to those who could not otherwise afford to pay for it;

· To promote the interests of new entrants and junior lawyers and to increase social mobility and diversity within the legal aid sector;

· To provide a network for like-minded people beginning their careers in the legal aid sector.

Who is it open to?

YLAL seeks to provide a distinct and powerful voice for junior lawyers working (and wanting to work in) legal aid. Membership is free and available to anyone who is studying law, up to those who are 10 years qualified. You do not need to work in legal aid to be a member; it is sufficient that you have an interest in the area.

First Leeds Meeting:

The new Leeds branch will host regular meetings and provide a platform for individuals to become involved in, and affect, the work of YLAL.

Our first meeting will provide a succinct summary of the current legal aid situation, YLAL and how you can become involved. We will also be going for some social drinks afterwards.
