In this reading group session we will discuss Principles and Big Ideas of Science Education.
These publications from the Association for Science Education set out ten principles underpinning the science education of all students. They argue that students should be helped to develop the ‘big ideas’ of science to enable them to understand the scientific aspects of the world around them and make informed decisions about the applications of science. This publication is now widely disseminated for science educators in Europe and beyond.
We'll discuss the relevance of these principles for environmental education, and set ourselves some goals for how we might incorporate these ideas into our practice.
The two documents can be found on the Association for Science Education Website.
