China: Through the Looking Glass was an exhibition held in 2015 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. It was a spring blockbuster curated by the museum's Costume Institute that explored fashion's historical fascination with Chinese art.
With lashings of Vogue magazine celebs and opening night nerves, this film presents the evolution of an intercultural exchange; from the initial vision of Costume Curator Andrew Bolton (who famously curated Alexander McQueen's epic Savage Beauty exhibition) to the sensitive and artful presentation of textual dialogues between Chinese objects and the Western fashions that they have inspired.
With Anna Wintour, Rhianna, John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier and Wong Kar-wai, as well as the work of Andy Warhol, Alexander McQueen and many more.
